Cheek Blocks for Sailboats

A cheek block has one cheek and no shackle: it bolts straight to the surface it works against and leads the line along it. That makes it the lowest-profile way to turn a line on deck, on a coaming or up a mast, with nothing to swing, snag or rattle. Seldén cheek blocks run from a 20 mm control-line lead to a 100 mm block carrying four tonnes.

Two things follow from having no shackle. The base has to match the surface it sits on, and the block has to be aligned with the load, because it takes all of its strength from the fasteners and the surface underneath.
